I was feeling bad that M4 didn’t get a spot at the Country Fair… so I’ve rounded up some corporate sponsorship to help off set some of your costs, but you’re going to have to make some changes.

From now on you’ll be known as “Taco Bell® Presents, March Fourthmeal™ Marching Band”. Yup…that’s right…. All the tacos, burritos and chalupas you can stand. (Does anyone know what a chalupa is anyway?) We’ll talk about your new methane powered bus after you all finish another bean & cheese burrito, and I don’t want to hear any complaining. It could be worse.
Baby Gramps got the Viagra® sponsorship.

WARNING: if you experience a “baby gramps” lasting more than 4 hours consult a physician immediately as this could lead to long term damage or prolonged injury.

I just wanted to take this opportunity to thank everyone who made Friday one of the most epic B-Days ever! I perform almost every year on my birthday but that was truly above and beyond the most magi-fantastical b-day gigs I've played. I think everyone should get the opportunity to have hundreds of friends, family, friends-to-be, and perfect strangers shower you with birthday love while you try to gracefully accept it (I am still learning that one, I'm much better at giving than receiving!)

Anyway you all rock and I am still in awe at the beauty of this glorious community!

love back at ya

Hey friends! It's xjordanary here with some free fresh new jams for your eager ears! I feel it's high time to quit being such a perfectionist hoarder of the music I create, and give as much back to all my beautiful friends and family as I can. This is the culmination of the last few creative months in one 34 minute mix of all original tunes composed by yours truly.
I hope you all enjoy, and have a hot n sunny fun summer!

a Mobile Groove Bomb 13 month calender

. . . and you can be in it!

It's an idea bandied about for a while and now it's happening. 13 months, August to August, photos and stories of the bus in a slick, dope calender. We are offering listings for birthdays ($5), anniversaries ($7) and events ($10) as well as a pre-sale price of $15 for the calender itself.

Be included! This is a fast-track project, and we will go to press in two weeks, so get your info in! For the price of [anything else that's $5 and that we buy all the time], you can be right there on the wall for hundreds of peeps to look at and plan for your birthday gift around. Help send the biggest, tallest art car yet to the playa and back this year (rumor has it? that the damn bus'll be taller than the temple?)!

You can paypal me at: marrrker7@yahoo.com. Please include type of listing and exact content (format will be like this: Marklar, b. 1960), phone number and email address. You can give me cash as well, just as easy perhaps, but know that we are really going to print soon and need to put all of this listing stuff together bu the end of next week.

Email with any questions, but step aboard! This is going to be a cool and community-of-us oriented project which will be beautiful even on your mom's wall.

Mutaytor and M4 together again!

What do you get when you combine 100 tribal drums, live-mixed electronica, fire performers, hoop dancers, aerial artists, John Avila (Oingo Boingo) on bass, Steve Reid (Rippingtons/Supertramp) on percussion, a live horn section, Chinese parade lions, giant screen visuals and a bevy of interactive dancers and performers? The Mutaytor is part hip-grinding techno-retro-funk, part audience-interactive post-modern circus. The act takes drastically advanced elements of the Grateful Dead, Parliament-Funkadelic, the Crystal Method, Louis Prima and Blue Man Group and throws them directly at the audience as riotous surreal entertainment notable for "turning Civilians into Rockstars." The sound is tight, the show manic, the vibe all-inclusively friendly. They are on stage, above the audience, IN the crowd.

M4 in May + CA tour!

Happy May Day!

I tell you, there is nothing like true small-town Southern Hospitality. We took 23 M4 freaks, delivered them (in four separate
batches) by plane to Lafayette, LA and set them loose in an international music festival with French Cajun roots, and no one came home hungry. Not only was the food free and rich and plentiful at all hours at the hotel filled entirely with Festival Internationale de Louisiane performers, the community of Lafayette seems to be among the most dedicated of new M4 fans. Thank you, Lafayette, and we hope to visit you again soon.

For our Portland area fans, don't miss this month's first Friday Spring Fling at Bossanova (our only local show this month). Later in May MarchFourth will be heading to California for our "Three Saints" tour. Check out the details below (and tell your friends!)

I have conferred with the powers that be at the Crystal Ballroom. Henceforth, you will not need an advance ticket to get into any one of our three birthday shows on March 2, 3 or 4. You will simply need to present your photo ID (proving you were born on March 4) and ask for a stamp. It's the easy!

Senate bill 1959
The end of Free Speech in America has arrived at our doorstep. It's a new law called the Violent Radicalization and Homegrown Terrorism Prevention Act, and it is worded in a clever way that could allow the U.S. government to arrest and incarcerate any individual who speaks out against the Bush Administration, the war on Iraq, the Department of Homeland Security or any government agency (including the FDA). The law has already passed the House on a traitorous vote of 405 to 6, and it is now being considered in the Senate where a vote is imminent. All over the internet, intelligent people who care about freedom are speaking out against this extremely dangerous law: Philip Giraldi at the Huffington Post, Declan McCullagh at CNET's News.com, Kathryn Smith at OpEdNews.com, and of course Alex Jones at PrisonPlanet.com

This bill is the beginning of the end of Free Speech in America. If it passes, all the information sources you know and trust could be shut down and their authors imprisoned. NewsTarget could be taken offline and I could be arrested as a "terrorist." Jeff Rense at www.Rense.com could be labeled a "terrorist" and arrested. Byron Richards, Len Horowitz, Paul Craig Roberts, Greg Palast, Ron Paul and even Al Gore could all be arrested, silenced and incarcerated. This is not an exaggeration. It is a literal reading of the law, which you can check yourself here: thomas.loc.gov/home/gpoxm...955_rfs.xml

The bill states:

‘...ideologically based violence’ means the use, planned use, or threatened use of force or violence by a group or individual to promote the group or individual’s political, religious, or social beliefs...

Note that this means the "planned use of force to promote a political or social belief" would be considered an act of terrorism. This all hinges on the definition of "force," of course. Based on the loose use of logic in Washington these days, and the slippery interpretation of the meaning of words, "force" could mean:

• A grassroots campaign to barrage Congress with faxes
• A non-violent street protest
• A letter-writing campaign that deluges the Senate with too much mail
• A sit-in protest that blocks access to a business or organization
• A grassroots e-mail campaign that overloads the e-mail servers of any government department or agency

You get the idea. "Force" could be defined as practically anything. And since the "planned use of force" would be considered a criminal act of terrorism, anyone who simply thinks about a grassroots action campaign would be engaged in terrorist acts.

If you stopped someone on the street and handed them a Bible, for example, this could be considered an act of terrorism ("...use of force to promote the individual's religious beliefs...")

If you sent a barrage of angry letters to Washington about global warming and the destruction of the environment by the U.S. military, this could also be considered an act of terrorism ("...to promote the individual's political beliefs...")

If you believe in same-sex marriage and you wrote a letter threatning a sit-in protest in front of your state's capitol building, this could also be considered an act of terrorism, even if you never carried it out! ("...planned use of force to promote a social belief...")

The United States is on the fast track to fascism, and the Congress is working right alongside this nation's traitorous leaders to criminalize any thoughts, words or speeches that disagree with current government policies regarding war, terrorism, domestic surveillance and civil liberties. Simply speaking out against the war on Iraq could soon be labeled a crime. Merely thinking thoughts against the war on Iraq could be considered a criminal act.

Must-see video: Naomi Wolf's lecture on 10 steps to fascism
There's a video lecture you simply MUST watch. It's by Naomi Wolf, author of The End of America. She covers this topic with great elegance and a deep understanding of history. See her video on YouTube at: www.youtube.com/watch

Anyone currently working on M4 video stuff? I have great footage of M4's first anniversary that some of you might remember seeing a while back. Includes behind-the-scenes pre-show footage of costume making, shots at the egg, a fire engine ride, the pre-show on the sidewalk outside the venue and fun footage of the show.

Please contact me if you are interested in collaborating or borrowing the tapes...

see y'all soon!

Hey March Fourth and fans of March Fourth. Gypsy Sound System from Switzerland is sledding into town to unleash their blend of Gypsy Beats and Balkan Bangers, along with my dj persona, GlobalRuckus. We're doing the afterparty at the Hippodrome opening on Saturday and a regular set at Branx on Sunday. Hippodrome/Branx are essential rooms in the old B-Complex if you didn't know.
Anyway, if you're loving the gypsy/balkan sounds that are taking the world by storm, by all means come out. And to those of you March Fourth members that have jammed with me in the past, or think that sounds like a fun thing to do, by all means please bring your brass or your beats or just your beauty and let 's show these Swiss/Polish gypsy djs how we do it out here in the NorthWest.
See you there!

THE HIPPODROME - Circus Arts Center - Grand Opening November 17th

Hey gang.

It is with great pride and satisfaction that I announce the actual, irreversible Grand Opening of our new circus arts center, THE HIPPODROME.

In Summary: I'm doing the Grand Opening show November 17th. Starting that day, we'll have the space open during all days and some nights for classes, rehearsals, and performances. And we need the help of our amazing tech people to set up as much top-notch apparatus as we can squeeze in there, starting around October 20th.

If you've got a taste for details, read on.

What Creature and I have put together is a deal for a full-fledged circus venue, owned by my employer Mike Wolfson, housed in what was once the main room of the BComplex/MeowMeow/Loveland/Mercury Room/Euphoria. It's a 1000-capacity all-ages venue with a big stage, big PA system, 2o-foot ceiling, and big sexy exposed beams. This means that not only are we managing to avoid paying tens of thousands of dollars in renovation, insurance, and monthly rent; we are in fact pulling a salary to run the place. I'm the booker and Creature is the production manager.

So. There are a number of things we need to do to prepare:

I've got the Grand Opening scheduled for November 17th, with Batty's Hippodrome doing an 8-10:30 show and PURE Cirkus doing a much darker 11-12:30 show. Then I want to get a DJ in there (very likely Gypsy Sound System and Global Ruckus, who will already be playing next door).

The room will become available for all our nefarious plans circa October 20th. That means we'll have just under one month to set up whatever circus apparatus we want in the room for all our rehearsals, workshops, and performances. We have highly qualified friends who have offered to install first-rate professional aerial rigs, trapeze, and other hard-to-find trappings of the big top; though exactly what we'll have available when will be dictated both by constraints of time and budget.

Then, starting November 17th, the room will be available in the daytime and some evenings for rehearsals, classes, meetings, and performances. Creature will spearhead this operation in the same way I'll spearhead the show side of things, though both of us will surely be entangled in all of it. If you or anyone you know is looking for a place to practice/teach/study things like: aerial, juggling, fire spinning, dance, yoga, martial arts, tumbling, clowning, theater, or any other specialized skill within the broad definition of Circus; please let us know and we can find you a spot on the schedule.

Please do let me know if you can get in on this in any capacity. I'm sure we'll also need people to come and help us clean/build/decorate the place during that crucial 10/20 - 11/17 period as well, so even your totally unskilled friend can get in on the fun.
Fire junkies looking for a home in Portland!

Hello!!

My fiance Jeremy and I are looking for a home in Portland! We're so happy to be coming back to the land of green, and want to find a beautiful home to start up our weekly fire jams again. So, preferably, we'd like house with a large yard for fire dancing. We don't mind living with people, we have two beautiful jungle kittens, and love to cook healthy, mostly vegan food! Talk to the Eugene folks about our fire jams! We were so sad to leave that fire community... It was a whole new set of family. If you know of a house you'd like to go in on with us, or have a good-sized room available, please let me know!

Blessings and sparkly things,
Lyra and Jeremy

I know most of youse are gonna be busy bouncing around the country (I'm jealous. I've always wanted to tour with a drinking band with a marching problem *wink*, but I guess Lila has all the fun). The question is, can anyone help a girl out with a tip for how to get my foot in the door in the stilt-walkin world. I'm dreaming this stuff, literally. Last night it was me way up in the air spinning and spinning to Ocelli's Twisting and Turning. Cooool that.

M4Fans rejoice! I have artfully attempted to deliver a message to the masses of YouTube their wonderful music. In an attempt to be experimental and learn the powerful tools of video editing I have produced 3 new clips. A new look at "Rise UP", The Alberta Street Parade, and more.!

We are so excited to bring our unique brand of fun and shenanagins to all our friends around the country.
M4 in a story?

Hi March Fourth!

I know some of you pretty well, been through burns with others, and others are familar faces with no names attached (yet), and I have had totally a great time associated with the M4 and look forward to many more.

So, in all humility I ask "May I put y'all in a story I'm writing?"

It's still in the outline and rough stages and I don't want to reveal the details, but I promise it's all in good fun. I can't offer any money, just more exposure.

I'm not sure about your structure, how decisions are made and all that. Would whomever's a head honcho drop me a mail and we can hash out stuff? Or if it's pure anarchy what would be a good forum to discuss who wants in and who wants out?

rock on,
Clear

I've got a flute that needs some major work to before it'll agree to play again. I'm looking for a recommendation for a flute repair service, thought someone in the band might know. Ideally I'd like to find someone open to trade for illustration and/or web design services. you can see some of my work at www.skuzart.com.

Drive our tour bus

MarchFourth Marching Band is leaving next saturday for a week-long tour to Reno and the High Sierra Music Festival. As of now, both of our planned drivers are not confirmed , so we're in a bit of a pinch. Here's what we need:

*A driver with a CDL + passenger endorsement (to drive more than 16 people). A school bus driver would be ideal.
*Someone available to take a week to tour with our funky and fun band, leaving next saturday, June 30, and returning July 7th.
*Ideally, this person would be excited about the travel opportunity, love live music, and not require a huge financial compensation (some payment will be offered, of course.).
*Our drivers may end up being available, meaning we wouldn't need the driver after all. So, some flexibility is required.

Please pass this on if you know anyone who might fit the bill, and be interested. Thanks! You can reply to info(at)marchfourthmarchingband(dot)com

On MIND BOMBIN

I called the album "Mind Bombin" not because im blowin people minds. Its is an ode to my youth growing up on the streets of the UK as a Graffiti deviant and yet it reflects the shifts in my socio/spiritual political outlook as i made my way out of the streets to the west coast of America.

BOMBIN; A QUICK CRASH COURSE IN DEVIANCY.

"Bombin" is a term used to describe going out and painting illegaly on a wall, train or some other form of private property. Bombin is a kind of fugitive act, claiming your personal presence amongst a landscape dominated by control and ownership. My crew and i known locally as T.C.K. (The Creative Kings) would go out on early morning Bombin raids to paint our newly created artwork on some pristine wall. The rush and feeling of accomplishment was addictive (as was dodging police), pushing the boundaries and refusing to live under the rule of law. The word would spread and before too long other Graffiti artists would come and check your work, creating both notoriety and respect. I was amongst an underground network of renowned artists that included the likes of Goldie (the now Drum & Bass icon), Madtempa (TRS) and Desire (TWC) to name a few.
In hindsight being engaged in this form of subversive activity gave me chance to look at and challenge the way our actions are governed and controlled. Most of us tend to simply accept these laws, unconsciously being given our prompts in life from a governing agent. Without challenging and in some cases breaking these laws we have no chance of discovering our own parameters as human beings and the full extent of our power. Our city streets, for example, the space some of us choose to inhabit, do not belong to us but those who govern us. We are in fact alienated from our own surroundings and our connection to time, place and earth. Individuality and personal presence are kept to a minimum in favour of efficiency and speed. The act of "Bombin" reclaims your space within the city and turns that which alienates and subjugates you into your freedom and your platform for expression.

MIND; DO YOU OWN YOURS?

Last year i went to hear a talk given by Chuck D, Public Enemys front man at Standford University. It was all great but one thing he said stood out to me.....

"Mind is the new Real estate of the 21st Century".

That stopped me dead in my tracks. Our attention is constantly being pulled at and fought for. Even if it for a split second if they have your attention they have you. Corporations and companies are constantly looking to set up shop in our minds with extensive media campaigns that play with subtle and not so subtle subconscious drives. In the same way that our physical space is controlled so too is our psychic space. In this type of environment i believe it is more important than ever to create autonomy over our own minds. The Mind is the last bastion of individual freedom, physical space being subjugated to the rule of law. But the more we let these influences into our minds and shape our behavior the more we surrender our sovereignty over ourselves.

This album for me is no different from those early morning bombin raids but instead of a pristine wall the territory instead is that of "Mass Mind", our collective psychic body, a landscape which is becoming more and more controlled by big business and less about the individual. Its definitely not about "blowin peoples minds" (i mean, please, im not that cheesy) but if it does that for you.....wicked. Its about the individual fugitive act of reclaiming personal power in the face of forces which do not want you to discover the fullest extent of your power, but to tap into it, siphon it off and redirect it. The mind when focused, empty (you try emptying your mind) and calm has no limits. You can do anything, make anything happen....truly......

.....but how deep does the rabbit hole go?

Hey everybody in the band, I feel I must express this thought I've been formulating since seeing you at the MGB gig last night. First, it was good to see you in such an 'intimate' environment, doing your show for a close knit circle of mostly family. I know how hard you've been going at it for all these years, months and the last few weeks in particular. Thanks for the big push all the way to the end yesterday.

As a performer myself I also understand how it takes repeated performances for people to understand a group. Of course with the nature of your act the spectacle alone, not to mention everyone's musical and performance abilities, choreography, etc., quite an impression can be made upon the first viewing. My point is that for me having seen you in different settings I experienced a renewed appreciation last night for the little things that make up your show.

I've been in groups before where the comraderie through shared experience has transcended the average 'band'. I see those looks you give each other and I know this to be a well-oiled machine with a huge heart. Something to be reckoned with. I'm proud to witness it, proud to be a part of this extended 'scene', proud to know you at all. You are right THERE. All praise for where you've been, and best wishes for
where you're going!

For what it's worth,
MV

Hello prospective housemates and welcome to our tribe ad. We, the residents of La Casa del Fuego, are looking for two new housemates to fill upcoming June vacancies. Move-in dates will likely be June 1st and July 1st for the two rooms.

We have a great house which is located on SE 44th Ave, a little bit south of Hawthorne. 6 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms, good amount of storage space, washer/dryer, nice little backyard with organic garden and grape arbor, living room, dining room, kitchen with a small nook, front porch... Three of us are in our late twenties, one of us is 30. We cook mostly vegetarian/vegan at home, recycle, compost, share condiments and cooking oils and stuff like that, have bought into a CSA share for the summer which you would have to be into, like hanging out together, perhaps some drinking or 4:20 and mostly building community ...

Robby, works for a bike touring company, spends much of his time dancing all night at Fire parties, Taurus Balls, Cinco de Mayo fiestas, or at Yonder, BassNectar, Blue Turtle Seduction or any of the other shows of his top 20 favorite bands...and is starting his MSW this fall

Sara, soon to be an ex-bi-lingual liaison, likes to drink Canadian coffee and highballs on the regular, ain't afraid to go out dancin' by herself...

Pawl, videographer, considers cycling a form of meditation, if you are looking for someone to go to a film/movie with - Pawl already asked you

Bob, um that's me, glorifed barista/counter server, when I'm not shooing the neighbor's cat away from our housecat's food dish - I'm probably rewriting one of my lists

We want to remain gender balance--two girls would be ideal, but will consider boys also. Please leave your phone number in your response so that it will be easier to schedule an interview. If we don't get back to you within a week then your future reality will likely be manifesting somewhere else.
Namaste.
